Sombrero Reef is one of the most popular snorkeling and diving spots in the Florida Keys, located about five nautical miles south of Pigeon Key and Vaca Key in Marathon.
It’s part of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and marked by the historic Sombrero Key Lighthouse, which rises 142 feet above the reef.
The reef is only accessible by boat — you can launch your own or take a local snorkeling charter from one of Marathon’s marinas.
